LAPD Officer Facing Attempted Murder Charge ​in Alleged Attack on Estranged Wife

Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jose Figueroa is facing a possible life sentence.  After six years with the LAPD, he has learned a thing or two about how to handle unruly suspects; this time it was his estranged wife.  She finally submitted after being choked unconscious and tied up.  Officer Figueroa is in custody with a $2.5 million bail.

It is possible that Office Figueroa could get his domestic violence charges dismissed, but due to the seriousness of the allegations, the chances are slim.

Just because someone is a “veteran” officer does not make him or her good, just or ethical.  LAPD is constantly in the news for problems with their officers.  These officers’ histories can be uncovered, but it does take some extra work.

It is also important for someone who has been abused by an officer (LAPD or other department) to report this conduct in writing to their department.  If nobody puts it in writing, then there is nothing to find when the personal records are reviewed.

Most cops are good, but not all of them are good.  Report misconduct and let’s hope for justice for Officer Figueroa’s estranged wife and their child.
