If you are the victim of police misconduct you should file a written report. All police departments keep track of complaints against an officer in the officer’s personnel file. This information may be accessed by attorneys in their efforts to defend their clients.
You should file a report if an officer does any of the following:
- Discriminates
- Profiles
- Uses excessive force
- Uses unnecessary force
- Write a false police report
- Fabricates evidence
- Plants evidence
- Injury
- Bias
- Abuse of authority
