The California courts now can divert or avoid convictions for people accused of crimes in certain situations. There are different types of diversions. There is informal court diversion or pre-plea diversion that’s available. There is a military diversion, and there is mental health diversion as well.
Where people are suffering from a mental illness and that is the reason for a particular crime there is the possibility of mental health or military diversion. If successful on Diversion it would result in criminal charges ultimately being dismissed. These mental health diversion programs or military diversion programs are not appropriate for every case, but in the right situation, with the correct information, the right history, and the right a treatment program, there can be a successful diversion resulting in the ultimate dismissal of a criminal matter.
